==================== Data lineage ==================== Understanding where data comes from, how it has changed, and who has modified it is essential for transparency and reproducibility in hydrological modeling and GIS analysis. Rana provides data lineage tracking and version history, allowing users to trace the full lifecycle of a dataset—from its origin to the latest transformations and analyses. With Rana’s built-in data history and provenance tracking, users can confidently work with datasets, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and compliance with organizational or regulatory standards. What is Data lineage? ===================== Data lineage in Rana visually maps out how a dataset was created, modified, and used in processes, analyses, and publications. It helps answer questions like: ✔ Where did this dataset originate? ✔ What transformations have been applied to it? ✔ Which processes have used it as an input? ✔ What outputs were generated from it? By automatically tracking these relationships, Rana provides a clear audit trail of data usage and dependencies. Viewing dataset history ======================= Every dataset in Rana has a history panel that logs: * Initial upload details (who uploaded it, when, and from where). * Processing history (e.g., transformations, analyses, workflows applied). * Version changes (modifications, corrections, re-uploads). Download and re-upload actions, including user-supplied commit messages to document changes. To access a dataset’s history: 1. Open a dataset in Project Datasets or the Data catalogue. 2. Click the History & Lineage tab. 3. Explore past versions, changes, and processing steps. .. image:: image/viewing_dataset_history.png
